Frequently Asked Questions

Operation and Performance

Yes, INERGIO’s SOFC system is designed for maximum reliability in remote and off-grid locations. It delivers consistent power output regardless of environmental conditions, operates autonomously without the need for constant supervision, and it functions seamlessly even in sub-zero temperatures. With high efficiency and uptime, it minimizes the risk of interruptions.

The INERGIO power pack is designed for long-term, low-maintenance operation. It delivers reliable performance for up to 10 years, after which a routine service is recommended.

INERGIO is completely weather-independent. It operates reliably in conditions ranging from –40 °C to +55 °C (-40 to 131 °F), starts even in extreme cold, and generates no frost or leaks that could damage equipment. Unlike many alternatives, it provides consistent performance in all climates, making it the ideal backup to solar power, ready to run regardless of weather or sunlight availability.

Yes, INERGIO delivers full power without the fumes, toxic emissions, or noise associated with conventional generators. Its quiet, emissions-free operation ensures compliance with environmental standards and makes it ideal for noise- or emission-sensitive environments.

Installation and Integration

Installation is designed to be as simple as a diesel generator. The system is plug-and-play, requires no special infrastructure, and is ready to operate within minutes. Just connect it, power up, and you’re set.

Yes. The INERGIO fuel cell can operate either as a primary power source or as part of a hybrid system with solar and batteries. It runs fully autonomously: once connected to the battery, the unit automatically switches on whenever solar power falls short and the battery level drops, recharging it and keeping your system running without interruption.

Yes, the INERGIO system can be remotely monitored and controlled through an application. Users can access real-time data on performance, operating status, and key metrics, allowing for efficient management and quick troubleshooting.

You can easily connect multiple systems to scale up power output. Our standard unit provides smart power management 150–200W, with an optional upgrade to 500W maximum power. For higher energy demands, we also offer customized solutions, like our 2.5kW fuel cell system.

Cost and Business

INERGIO units are designed, developed, and assembled at our operational site in Renens, Switzerland. This localized production ensures high-quality standards and reliable delivery timelines.

The system is guaranteed to operate for 15,000 hours. While it may last longer, efficiency beyond this point cannot be guaranteed.

Our systems are designed for off-grid or unreliable, challenging power environments. They can withstand harsh conditions from -20°C to 50°C (-40 to 131 °F) and operate at altitudes up to 3,000 meters. Applications include mobile and stationary surveillance systems, traffic management systems and oil and gas operations.

Technology Basics

A solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is a type of fuel cell that generates electricity through an electrochemical process that converts chemical energy from a fuel directly into electrical energy. Unlike traditional combustion-based power generation methods and fuel cell systems, SOFCs operate at high temperatures (typically between 600°C and 1,000°C). They offer higher efficiency and reliability with lower emissions.

Air and fuel are injected on two different sides of a solid membrane, creating an electrochemical potential. As a result, oxygen ions migrate through a solid oxide electrolyte from the cathode to the anode. At the anode, the fuel oxidizes – for example, hydrogen produces water – releasing electrons that travel through an external circuit, generating an electric current.

INERGIO’s SOFC (Solid Oxide Fuel Cell) system is a plug-and-play solution that runs on widely accessible, affordable commercial propane and requires no special infrastructure or proprietary fuels. It delivers power without producing fumes, toxic emissions, fuel leaks, or disruptive noise, making it ideal for both urban and remote environments. Unlike solar solutions or other fuel cells, it operates reliably regardless of weather, starting and functioning continuously even in sub-zero temperatures with no need for additional setup.

Today, the hydrogen infrastructure is not fully developed. Most hydrogen production is still not environmentally friendly and generates over 850 million tons of CO2 per year. We also face limitations in storing and distributing this very light gas.
The advantage of fuel flexibility is that you can use readily available fuels such as propane (i.e., barbecue bottles) or methane with the same equipment today, and switch to hydrogen when it becomes green and widely available.
